Applied Sustainability is the application of science and innovation to meet human needs while indefinitely preserving the life support systems of the planet. The objective of the Collaborative Masters Program in Applied Sustainability is to expose MEng and MASc students to the implementation of sustainable engineering solutions within the context of broader sustainability theory. To do this properly, engineering students not only advance their technical education, but also gain insights into how public policy impacts the success of engineering solutions to multidisciplinary sustainability problems.

The Masters of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management program is offered at VIU’s Nanaimo campus on beautiful Vancouver Island – in a region of Canada that is noted for leisure and tourism opportunities. This two-year program delivers a non-traditional approach to studies in ecotourism and innovative leisure practices, with courses that combine field experience and classroom instruction, all within a global context. Diploma in Agricultural Sustainability Our innovative program bridges agricultural and environmental sciences. As well, it merges the concerns of both the public and producers. Consumers want to know where and how their food is grown. Farmers and ranchers care about conservation and productivity.

In this new seminar-style course, students will review and discuss cutting-edge behavioural science articles on the factors that lead people to invest their personal and financial resources toward a more sustainable future. Topics will include but are not limited to choosing sustainable products, branding and sustainability, resource conservation, changes in habits and lifestyles, marketing social causes, and civic engagement. This course, therefore, will be relevant to a variety of fields and organizations in the public and private sector that seek progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This course is meant to build off the insights students have gained from earlier module courses, particularly Consumer Behaviour (MOS 3321), Marketing Research (MOS 3420) and Sustainability Marketing (MOS 3423). Pre-requisite: Enrolment in 4th year of BMOS or permission of the instructor. Additional Pre-requisites or Co-requisites: enrolment in at least two of Consumer Behaviour (MOS 3321), Marketing Research (MOS 3420) or Sustainability Marketing (MOS 3423).

Grounded in the context of a post-modern society, and recognizing the importance of multiple perspectives, this Ph.D. program in Educational Sustainability will prepare students from a variety of fields.

This course allows the student to explore decision-making in the midst of moral ambiguity and environmental uncertainty. Moral reasoning in an organizational milieu and the understanding of the mechanics of organizational reputation are explored. This course brings into sharper focus the discussion on environmental sustainability that equips students with the strategic concepts they will need to know as they face the future consequences such as climate change and global warming and energy availability.
