The Associate of Arts (DTA) degree with Specialization in World Languages provides the required preparation for successful transfer into a bachelor's degree program in World Languages at the Junior level. The Associate of Arts (DTA) degree is a Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) degree. The following course set fulfills the requirement of the Specialization in World Languages for the Associate of Arts (DTA) Degree. This specialization enables students to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in multiple languages, and to analyze, examine and explore oral and written communication using a variety of topics through authentic materials, in all major time frames.

The Bachelor of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is designed for students who want to engage with international populations in the US or abroad. It is rooted in a desire to communicate with people from different languages and cultural backgrounds from the dual perspective of teachers who wish to serve international sojourners in the US and those who want to journey abroad to engage with students in their home cultures.

Communication is the study of how humans construct meanings through interactions. Courses in this area may focus on the knowledge and skills needed to communicate effectively in oral, written, or visual forms; on the study of language and culture; and/or on a critical understanding of the structures and patterns of different kinds of communication as they affect individuals and society. Studies in Communication, Media, and Languages are designed for students interested in pursuing further studies in English, Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Communication Studies, and World Languages at four-year institutions. It may be useful for students interested in pursuing careers in communications, graphic design, journalism, law, marketing, public relations, radio and television, translating, and writing, among others.

The concentration in Korean prepares students to perform professional work in the field of translation, international relations, local and federal government, transnational enterprise, cultural industry, and teaching careers in Korea or at local public schools and to pursue graduate studies in Korean or Korean studies. The concentration in Korean has an emphasis on developing solid Korean language proficiency skills, technical translation skills, and an in-depth understanding of both South and North Korean society and culture.

The Department of Modern Languages & Linguistics offers instruction in three languages: French, Japanese and Spanish (beginner to advanced). The Associate in Arts in American Sign Language degree (A.A in American Sign Language) provides students with the foundational knowledge in ASL to prepare them for transfer to four-year universities that offer a baccalaureate program. Furthermore, acquiring communication skills in other languages facilitates the exchange of ideas and transactions, and increases awareness, appreciation and understanding of cultural diversity.

Classical studies are offered through the Department of Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (MEAMS). Major tracks in Classics offer coursework in the cultures, languages, and literature of the ancient Mediterranean, with a focus on ancient Greece and Rome.

In our intensive English program, you can experience life in the US and study academic English to prepare for your university degree or future career. We offer high beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of instruction with 18-20 hours of class per week. You will share classes with students from all over the world, including Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, South & Latin America, and the United States. We welcome all students, international and domestic.

The Classics Studies, Greek and Latin program is designed to provide thorough and rigorous training in ancient Greek and Latin, the principal languages and literatures of the ancient Mediterranean world and beyond. Our majors have found doors for them in a variety of fields: teaching, scholarship (including PhD work in Classics Studies, archaeology, etc.), and careers of all sorts.

In the MA TESOL program, candidates explore language learning and teaching theories and practices in various sociocultural settings, both locally and globally. Candidates reflect on their beliefs about language teaching and learning as they develop language awareness, greater empathy, cross- and inter-cultural competencies, advocacy skills for working with linguistically and culturally diverse learners of English, as well as a commitment to continued professional development growth.

As English has become the language of choice for international communication and the most widely spoken second language, the global demand for English teachers continues to increase. In this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program - Teachers of English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESFL) - you gain a theoretical foundation and hands-on skills in teaching second languages. Upon graduation, you are able to teach English as a second/foreign language to newcomers to Canada, international students, and professionals.
