At our 2024 Sustainability Summer Programme, we offer students the chance to join our world class academic colleagues from the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy to look at the concept of Sustainability and how STEM can help society work towards this goal. Within this accredited course, we will explore different areas of STEM with a view to encouraging and inspiring innovations by bringing people together from all over the world to explore practical solutions.

The Maastricht School of Management's Expertise Track (specialisation) in Digital Finance and Sustainability addresses the emerging fields of digital finance and sustainability accounting. The Winter School offers a one-week full-time multidisciplinary program at the Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry Department (DCCI) of the University of Pisa. It is devoted to training students with a technical-scientific background on the advances of analysing materials of interest in environmental and green chemistry. Note that, even if the focus of this year is biopolymers, the knowledge acquired during the school may be applied to several other materials. The focus will be mainly on PhDs, but master’s degrees and post-docs are also welcome.

PPE: Climate Change, Politics, and Environmental Justice is a course that delves into the examination of the political challenges and economic ramifications associated with both the proactive measures and lack of action in addressing anthropogenic climate change, the accelerated warming of the Earth's temperature fueled by fossil fuel consumption and the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The course utilizes case studies at local, national, and international levels to explore these issues comprehensively.

We live in uncertain times. The favorable climate that humanity has known is rapidly changing, with far-reaching implications for human behavior and health. It’s increasingly critical to build preparedness for direct – and indirect – climate impacts and to welcome uncertainty into the design process. How do we explore and imagine possible pathways to increase our resilience and capacity to adapt? This workshop will explore these questions and help build an understanding of the trajectories, impacts, and influences of climate change.

The art of emulating life: design across biological scales! This course involves an active search and a responsive foresight; it does not involve extracting from nature, it implies learning from it. Human beings are not simply observers of nature, as if we were looking at it from a bubble. We are 100% in nature.
